Killer roads

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The unprecedented increase in the traffic in the Kashmir has put great pressure on the roads of the country. If we go by the number of accidents then all the citizens of this city should feel concerned. The citizens of this city have expressed concern over the increasing number of deaths on the roads of the city.
During the past decade we have seen a new trend emerging in the city. This trend is dangerous and so all steps are needed to control this trend. Boys, very young in age have been provided motorcycles by their parents. These young boys without seeing right or left race ahead with their high power and performance of their motor cycles. One wonders why these young boys have been handed over these racing machines and how they zip and wiz past the other traffic in dangerous curves.
Why traffic department is turning a blind eye to this problem. Similarly young girls too of less age than the age made mandatory for a driving license. Even cars are being driven by very young boys and girls. Without caring for the safety of other road users these young boys and girls are a big traffic hazard and can be a source of great risk to the people. The Traffic Department should launch a drive to check the license of these young people and allow only those to drive vehicles whether motor cycles or cars who are of the age which is essential for issuance of a driving license.
