Ailing SRTC
Though the former transort minister and all the concerned kept on repeating that SRTC employees were responsible for the financial perils of the corporation the facts and records always refuted what was said at the government level. The balance sheets of the corporation which squarely blame the mismanagement for financial breakdown of the corporation, clearly point out that the wrong policies of the government were responsible for the downfall of this public asset. Ironically the decision makers of the corporation who are the real culprits behind the present deplorable position of the corporation have gone scot-free and are still enjoying the benefits and security of government pay cheque.. The people were entrusted the job of running the organization to make it more profitable and the poor employees had to obey and work under the policies of policy makers. It is clear that the employees at the lower rung of officialdom had no say as for as the running of the corporation was concerned.
But unfortunately it is now the employees who are facing the brunt of the condition of SRTC. For last so many years the employees remain high and dry until come out on the streets to press their demands. Presently the employees of corporation are without pay for last four months. The plight can be well imagined incase of employees from urban and suburban areas who might be going without even the assures supply of even food items.
Being deeply pierced in heart when their wards were thrown out of the schools when they didn’t receive their fee on time the employees even demonstrated with their kids so as to awaken the conscience of the authorities, but the authorities have long back dismissed all human concerns as politically motivated. The authorities instead of addressing their grievances have always used the method of ‘Crush them” against them. They have been receiving police batons for years and even their women have not been spared the wrath of authorities when the problems reached such proportion that the wives of employees seeing no way out had to come on streets along with their husbands.
The corporation has been used always by the people of power to get their own men some employment and the Ex transport minster didn’t prove any exception. If the reports are to be believed 300 appointments were made in the corporation by those authorities who were crying that the corporation was running at a huge loss to the state exchequer. More than 150 backdoor appointments were cancelled through a government order after the employees filed a case against the government. Though the order had come from the highest government authority the concerned minster and bigger babus were left untouched and this was being done by none less than the Chief Minister who boasts of giving Jammu Kashmir a clean government. There are reports that the dismissed employees have been once more taken back by the authorities.
The system of governance known by the name of democracy (called rule by the commons for unknown reasons) has always failed the person at the lowest level and in case of the corporation the weight of the financial breakdown is on the employees at the lower rung and it takes no Einstein to see that the worst sufferers are those employees who have been doing their jobs honestly and with integrity. This is governance!
