REMORSE

Dr.Tasneem Shaukat Hamdani

The road was there before me

Each milestone marked vividly

Stretching on and on

Beyond the forests

Snow bound mountains

At the end I knew

There was peace

And a realized dream,

But I strayed

A green gold mirage

Lured me on

I sought the shade

Shied from the thorns

I feared-

The loneliness of constant trail

My weak, weak,

Faltering sprit

Squirmed this way and that

Sought easy escape,

The dwindling stem sustains

The shivering flame

A few breaths more

What answer have I

But remorse?

I doomed myself

When I shunned that road------
