Delay in recruitment process
There is no denying that process of recruitments for various government posts works at snail’s pace.136 posts of Naib Tehsildars are lying vacant in the Revenue Department. This is just tip of the ice-berg as thousands of posts lie vacant with departments like Medical and Research, Information and Public Relations, Health, Tourism and Finance etc. Recruitment process seems to be the last priority of the state government.
It is matter of serious irony that government have started hiring the services of retired Naib Tehsildars and officials of revenue department, instead of recruiting aspiring youth. Why to make these contractual appointments of retired persons when we have thousands of unemployed youth waiting and preparing for the NT examinations. The same is case with every other post advertised by the state government.
Though the state government claims having started the recruitment process in schools, 14,000 posts of primary and secondary teacher are still vacant all over the state. The situation is no different in colleges where 500 posts are vacant in government colleges affecting students. Vacancies in other departments too exist. Government must take serious note of its own drawbacks if it is, in any case, serious to resolve unemployment problem in Kashmir.

Problems of education
Education plays a vital role in the progress of a nation. But still we neglect education, especially in the government sector. Our literacy rate is very low and people do not pay attention towards its improvement. Another problem is the low standards of education.I have seen many students who don’t even know the correct tables in mathematics and their grammar is so pathetic. It’s all because of not taking education seriously.
I think the government should take strong initiatives to improve the Education sector. Moreover, this underlines the need to employ teachers who are devoted to their profession and are able to guide their students as well. I pray that Almighty God give all of us enough strength to understand our responsibilities and fulfill them properly. At the same time, the government needs to initiate sincere efforts if it intends to "revamp and strengthen" the education system.

Fill up vacant posts
Police lines Budgam does not bother to fill up the vacant post of wireless operator’ advertised one year back. Aspirants who appeared in interview were told that within few days recruitments will be made. However, as of now nothing happened. Whenever we approach department in order to enquire about the results, they just give us lame excuses. We request higher authorities to look in to this matter and ensure speedy recruitment of the vacant posts.

Importance of libraries
No one can deny the fact that libraries play a very vital role in the field of education. They are useful for laymen, professionals and scholars to enhance their knowledge. Some ancient or modern books which are not available in bookstores or in the markets or if some student cannot afford to buy a certain book can refer to libraries. Educated people can pass their leisure time with good and interesting books in libraries. In developed countries libraries are being extended everywhere even to the remotest villages.
Unfortunately, in Kashmir public libraries are available in just a few places. Kashmir being a backward state .There is dire need of libraries for the spread and development of education. We requested the government and concerned authorities to promote an environment conducive to learning, this can only happen when libraries are built everywhere in the state.

Sorry state!
Kidnapping and sexual harassment is now common in our society. Recently, two children were kidnapped, from our city. Besides this another nuisance is sexual harassment, many such incidents takes place mostly in rural areas. This is just the tip of the ice-berg. In order to curb such incidents it is important that the authorities take concrete steps, or else innocent people will fall prey to such unruly acts.

Consumer offer
I would like to share with your readers a rather bizarre incident. A few months ago, a well-known restaurant in Srinagar launched an attractive consumer offer. Their sales representative called at our house and offered to sell us a discount coupon card which would enable us to buy two items at the price of one.
The validity of the coupons was for a “life-time” or till we had used up all the coupons — there were 32 coupons on the laminated card. I rang up the restaurant which confirmed that the offer was genuine. Since we have a household with three children who often have friends over for group study and had to be served meals at short notice, I thought the offer was a good investment and bought the coupon card.
We used the coupons on a few occasions but when my daughter rang them up to place an order under this scheme, she was told that this discount scheme had been discontinued from June 16. We were shocked and could not believe that a reputable business house could do such a thing. I wrote to them but to date there has been no reply.

Misuse of ‘zakat money’
Islam is not merely a creed of ritual worship and social customs. It is a complete code of conduct or way of life that guides man and helps him establish systems that guarantee success both in this world and the hereafter. The Holy Quran repeatedly exhorts believers to pay Zakat (poor due). Conscientious Muslims have nothing against the collection of zakat (alms) and its disbursement among the needy, but they object vehemently when some unruly persons collect money from people in the name of alms and then squander the same for illegal activities. This is against the Islamic law.

Kashmir has become vulnerable to diabetes
Diabetics have witnessed rapid increase and this upward trend is disturbing notwithstanding the measures taken by the government of India. The Kashmir valley is also becoming vulnerable to diabetes. According to a latest survey, 1.89 per cent of adults are suffering from the disease while 6 per cent remain undiagnosed. About 15 per cent have been found with the blood sugar above normal. This can be mainly attributed to changing lifestyle of people.Hence, people must become health conscious and bring some positive changes in food habit and lifestyle.

Prolonged water logging creates miseries for Natipora residents
Prolonged water logging after the spell of rainfall can bring various ailments in its wake, if the civic authorities’ donot address our problems. There is every possibility of skin disease as residents have to wade through dirty water. Adding to our woes, Civic authorities do not improve the drainage in our area. Heaps of garbage dumped near the houses further pollutes the stagnant water. We request the higher authorities to take stock of situation and address our problem with utmost sincerity.

Shortage of drinking water in Patan
Shortage of drinking water in the Patan of district Baramulla, has compounded miseries for the locals. What has most irked the people is that no honest attempt is being made by the concerned department to ensure proper supply of drinking water. This has led to protests by residents at regular intervals. There is every likelihood of strong protests again, if positive action is not taken by the officials.
