Inadequate medical facilities in Government Hospitals

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

The real problem in all of the government hospitals including that of SMHS is one of the complete shortages - of medical professionals, of other staff, of rooms, of beds, of equipment, of medicines, of everything. Government hospitals that were set up to cater to poor patients are in pathetic state. Even worse; patients are deprived of crucial facilities even during emergency conditions.

Unattended Garbage poses health hazards to the residents of Ashajipora, Islamabad

Just few meters away from the District Hospital Islamabad, the municipal corporation   has created an open dumping site at Ashajipora for the dumping of garbage which poses health hazards for the people living in vicinity of this area.
Moreover the residents have expressed deep concern over the unattended garbage at the site which also pollutes the nearby “Arpath’’ river.
The litter, including plastic bags, disposable cups, bottles and wrappers that covers the banks of Arpath River—— is beyond description. The Municipal Corporation never bothered to provide garbage bins at convenient points in the area. There is more garbage strewn on the road side. The unattended garbage has turned into a breeding ground for stray cattle and dogs. The municipal council of Islamabad has created this whole civic mess. Every morning the workers of the municipal council collect the garbage from various corners of the town and then dump   at this site.
This unattended heap of garbage has made the life of residents miserable. The foul smell emanating out of it is just unbearable. Students of the nearby ITI are equally worried as the stench reaches to their classrooms.
The business of shopkeepers also gets adversely affected as the customers prefer to go to some other place due to unbearable stink. Moreover; there is alarming increase of stray dogs due to uncovered litter
. These dogs often attack passerby and people fear to let their children out for the fear of being attacked.
We request the concerned authorities to remove the garbage as quickly as possible as there is every chance of the outbreak of epidemics in the area. The residents have urged the municipal corporation to take appropriate measures to clear this garbage. The matter was raised time and again with the concerned authorities but that did not bring any relief for the locals.

Need to curb childhood stress

High expectations in academic or other performances, deprived childhood, growing up tensions are the main causes of childhood stress.
There is a strong need to effect far reaching changes in our education system at the primary, secondary and higher education levels. Schooling should start when a child is mentally and physically ready to learn. Till then child should attend a book free, burden less kindergarten, where learning is by observation. In school there should be gradual enhancement in the syllabus. There should be more stress on practical learning than theoretical study.

Litter mars the beauty of Public Park

The public park near Babadem   has always been one of the most favoured feeding grounds for the stray cattle. Reason being that area does not only serve as a dumping stations for regular garbage that is disposed off by the nearby localities but also provides the cattle with an ample scope to munch upon the disposed plastic, and many more disposable and non disposable material .More so, authorities failed to provide the area with dust bin, the place remains littered for days until the Cattle feed on it. Today maintenance of this area is nobody’s concern since the concerned authorities have managed to turn a blind eye to the civic mess.

Lack of Healthcare facilities in Sub-district Hospital

The sub-district hospital at Baramulla is without basic healthcare facilities for the past one week thereby causing lot of inconvenience to the patients. There are no pain killers, no antibiotics, and no blood for transfusions or surgeons on call. Moreover, frequent power curtailment and absence of pure drinking water has further compounded problems for the patients. Not only patients, attendants and the staffers are equally suffering. We request government to provide necessary facilities to this neglected hospital.

Sewage in drinking water pipes

The residents of Khwaja Bagh, Baramulla have been supplied with polluted drinking water.  The drinking water supply pipes have been discharging sewage for one month and so the residents have no potable water for use. It is learnt that sewage is getting mixed with drinking water due to leakage in pipes. The Municipality laid the main pipeline 5 decades ago, which is not changed by the Municipality. It is the duty of the authorities to supply good drinking water. The resident are put to great hardship and they expect early supply of wholesome water otherwise the residents may be affected by cholera and vomiting.

Give us relief from vendors

Some vendors and auto rickshaw drivers are creating nuisance for the pedestrians near Hari-Singh high street. There is total traffic chaos at this very juncture as most of the space has been illegally occupied by these roadside vendors. Adding to the woes of people are unruly autos that can knock you down any time. This is not the end of story, vendors usually selling unhygienic food items at exorbitant prices which also includes non-vegetarian food, is turning this clean place into a dirty one with the food items left over by the customers. I hope the civic authorities will take action against them and put an end to this menace.
