Is this normality?

Every body is interested in restoration of normality. But instead of taking tangible measures normality is connected to opening of wine shops, cinema halls, picnics and even promiscuity. Last year when a person lost his nerves after consuming huge quantities of alcohol at Gulmarg, the people lodged a complaint with the concerned police station. The sharaabi was taken into custody. But in a few moments the police station received a call from a senior police official. The police official ordered his immediate release and connected consumption of liquor at tourist resorts to restoration of normality. The poor police officer had to eat a humble pie.
A friend last week came to Sheru’s office. He showed a video clip to Sheru. He was  shocked. The clip showed a young couple in a very compromising position in the infamous botanical garden. Sheru shivered.  The police knows that the so-called botanical garden has become a safe heaven for promiscuous couples.  Some quarters agitated the matter time and again. The forum against social evils even raided the garden repeatedly and caught many a couple in compromising position. But no action was taken and the misguided youth continue to pollute the  society in the garb of love. The garden has morphed into a brothel but being a symbol of `normality’ the authorities are reluctant to take action.
When Kashmir was `normal’ the lovers would never indulge in such acts even behind closed doors.   Not to speak of shooting intimate moments with mobile phones, the people in love would take years together to hold each other’s hands. But today it is all physical. The society has become permissive and promiscuous. If this is normality, Sheru does not need it.
Love was a shahi khel in the yester years. But now people with polluted, rather sick minds have indulged in it and this `institution’ has been spoiled. Now it has been reduced to ……… . Sheru cannot use the word.  How innocent were the lovers of yester years. The love letters would start with  `Gulmarg ki lakdi, Sonmarg ka gaas; agar hai mohabat aa meray paas’.
Sheru is worried for other reasons as well. The present day laivers have pushed the poets to the wall. They have nothing to write. They cannot glorify a promiscuous act by carving out beautiful verses. The words like firaaq, vissal, dard-e-dil  have lost their meaning.  Gone are the days when a lover would express his feelings by singing : “Teri aankh kay aansoon pee jawoon……………”
Laanat hai yaar. The people need to launch a movement against restoration of normality  before it is too late.
