Srinagar, July 21: Jammu Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) distributed football equipments to registered football clubs of the state, district units and football academies during the inaugural match of the Super Division Football League between JK Bank and Zahid Sports at Polo ground (west) here on Monday.
After the National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah during the Roadways final between JK Bank and JK Police last year had announced to give rupees five lakh from Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund to JKFA for the development of football in valley.
“The equipments that the JKFA is distributing have been purchased from the rupees five lakh that were announced by the National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah during the Roadways final between JK Bank and JK Police last year,” said JKFA Resident Treasurer Fayaz Ahmad Sofi.
However the decision to spend the amount on purchasing the sporting gears rather than to use the money in developing the sports infrastructure came after the JKFA’s collective accord.  The JKFA had put forward the requirements both in terms of quality and quantity to the concerned authority and the purchase of the same had been done in March this year.
The equipments were awarded to the representatives of the respective clubs by the Commissioner Higher and Technical Education Khazir Mohammad Wani who was the chief guest on the occasion.
The equipments among the district units were distributed depending upon the strength of each unit. Among the district units who received the sporting gears include Bandipora, Handwara, Budgam, Baramullah, Anantnag, and some other. Each unit was provided with the football amenities like uniform sets, balls, referee flags, corner flags and nets.
In case of clubs, around 46 clubs were provided with the facilities of three balls each as the same had received the uniform during the last year’s football leagues while as those who had received the balls were given a set of uniform.
Speaking to media, the chief guest said, “The equipments will boost the confidence of players and will encourage them to strive forward.”
Back in the match, JK Bank handed out a 3-0 defeat to Zahid Sports.
JK Bank scored the initial goal in the 25th minute when Rizwan unnerved the opponents and netted the ball. Before Rizwan scored his first and matches’ first goal, JK Bank had missed out on a few occasions. Ibrahim followed Rizwan and doubled the lead in the same half. Thus at the end of the first half the score line read JK bank 2 and Zahid Sports 0.
Zahid sports continued its dreary performance in the second half and lost the match 3-0 as JK Bank scored its third goal during the middle of the half.
The Super League is featuring the teams like JK Bank, JK Police, JK Forest, SRTC, R&B, Maharaja Sports, Iqbal Sports Food & Supplies XI, thus increasing the chances of exciting tussles between the teams and all the matches of the league will be played at Polo Ground.
