Administration geared up in Kupwara for elections

Srinagar, November 29 :For the five Assembly constituencies of Kupwara, Karnah, Lolab, Handwara and Langate of district Kupwara of going to polls on November 30, 2008, all security and other arrangements have been finalized.

In order to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in these constituencies, foolproof security arrangements have been made and 11 zonal and 31 sectoral magistrates appointed to monitor election related matters. 

As many as, 14 candidates in Karnah, 19 in Kupwara, 10 in Lolab, 13 in Handwara and 15 in Langate are contesting the elections.

The District Election Officer (DEO), Kupwara said that the migrant voters residing outside the valley have been classified into two categories of specified and notified.

For the specified voters, the Election Commission has estabished special polling booths with Assistant Returning Officer, Migrant as designated officer where they can cast their votes. There are 1,503 specified voters in Handwara constituency.

The notified category voters have the option of postal ballot. There are three notified migrant voters in Handwara constituency. The necessary procedure has been adopted as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India and are being strictly observed with regard to migrant voters, the DEO added.
