Srinagar, July 22: The residents of Zindshah Mohulla Rainawari on Monday said that the area is facing acute shortage of water for past few weeks. They expressed their dissatisfaction over the civic authority’s action in not ensuring adequate measures to avoid water woes. Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Zindshah Mohulla Rainawari told this newspaper that their area is facing acute water shortage and the taps have gone dry and these have become just a show-piece adding that the females of the area have to go to other areas for the sake of water which is not only causing inconvience but at times feel ashamed. The area has been facing same problem since 2007, Rasool said “we have been facing same difficulty in 2007 also and that time we approached Ex Chief Engineer PHE, Abdul Rashid Beigh who solved the problem within four hours”. “This time also we tried to approach control room, concerned officials of PHE who assured that the problem will be solved before 19 July and a team will be sent for inspection to the area but no body turned up so far and when the problem became worse we tried to contact the control room but there was no body to listen to us” said Ghulam Muhammad. What is the fun of entrusting the responsibilities to the department when they are not able to solve the problems of people? The water is one of the essential components of life and due concern should have been paid to the problems being faced by people on this front," said Abdul Ahad, a resident of Zindshah The residents of the area have demanded that the water supply should be restored immediately, so that the residents need not to stage demonstrations on road against the concerned department. Executive Engineer, PHE, Rafiq Malik told this newspaper that “there was an apprehension that water supply pipes are having blogs but later we find that the road connecting to the area is under construction due to which pipes got dismantled”. He added that the department has got 16 tankers and these tankers remain on rounds round the clock. “Even during late night, the water is supplied to the affected areas through tankers. We try and ensure that every area gets water,” he said adding, “We have to resort to such measures to ensure that water reaches every citizen of the affected areas”. “If the residents of Zindshah Mohulla Rainawari are in need of water tankers the department can provide supply adding that it will take more two days to the department to restore services to the area”.
